I have to warn you. The smell of the mixture -- with all the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen making the dough with me (we made a bargain that included him with me) and we had to work hard not to put our faces, or even a straw, straight in to it.

Then you add all of the ingredients (which means you simply use one bowl yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake themspoon out about a tablespoon of dough and produce a thick disc, as opposed to a ball. They spread somewhat when baking, and therefore don't place them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a nice, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 additional thing I love about this recipe is really where it came out.

My grandmother (my dad's mother ) passed out in 2008. After I started baking a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me cookbook he'd had didn't use. I've had it on my list to make a number of her desserts since.

It was a custom for my grandma to make them each Christmas! She gave everyone a huge tin of them, which was quite an effort with 6 sons.

I now know just how much of a feat it was! My goodness. She made them using a traditional gaufrette iron that goes over a open fire. My dad and I had them on the cooker. They cook very quickly and you have to be exact. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated into iron. As long and they burned into the iron and we all had to scrub it out.

My father was massaging the batter and removing the cookies, I was working the ironthe hubs was timing things. It required quite a few attempts to get it right, but they were so excellent! I've attempted to create them again on my own and it never works. I'd like to share the recipe, but the dang irons are all so tough to discover. And expensive. Sooner or later, I would love to just make a cookie with the exact same gaufrette taste.

For today though, I'm sharing these cookies. I really don't believe I ever had them made thembut they're from her novel.

It's such a fun recipe book to look through, also. There are so many handwritten pages, clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped to the publication. I adore the way they used to compose recipes in the paper -- they'd the man who filed it is name and adorable little stories. It is so enjoyable to browse ! What another time on earth!

Anyways, I do not know where this recipe originated out. The newspaper appears like it was on a flier from their square dancing class or something (they have been big into square dance ). It's undoubtedly from West Virginia, where they dwelt.

In any event, I'm so glad to finally share a recipe out of her book with you! I made a few changes to make them thicker and puffier and they're delicious. There'll be more to come from her recipe book, but for the time being enjoy the banana.

Return: 34-36 COOKIES


3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use Challenge Butter)

1 cup brown sugarpacked

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats


1. Mix together egg, brown sugar, sugar, egg, vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well blended.

2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and blend until blended.

3. visit Stir in milk.


5. Spoon tablespoons of dough on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Flatten dough a little bitinto thick disks. They will spread a bit when baked.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just begin to gold.

7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then move into cooling rack to complete cooling.
